Google-owned Boston Dynamics has developed the humanoid robot Atlas for over three years and over the years we have seen many examples of how the mobile robot is and what balance it possesses.

In this video you can see how Atlas makes its way across some fairly narrow obstacles, walking over small and partial footholds such as small stepping stones or line contacts. With each step, the robot calculates how it should be put down their foot and distribute body mass to get a partial foothold and not slip.

The specific algorithm Atlas uses to get around in this kind of terrain is developed by the Institute for Human & Machine Cognition.
