‘The Fleet’ is the aerospace warfare service branch of the United Citizen Federation, serving as an air force and as a space armada in the interstellar war against the Arachnids.
Here we get to see the ‘Athena class’ capital starship, first deployed during the Second Battle of Klendathu. Several Corvette Transports used by Fleet during the First Bug War, and the Second Bug War. These 550-meter long corvette transport ships are generally named after famous generals and battles (e.g. The Yamamoto, The Hood, and Cromwell). The heavily armed and capable ‘John A. Warden Class’ serving during the Second Bug war. Several types of auxiliary ships during the Battle of Klendathu. Also, many small fast attack ships and lastly a rescue pod crashing into a bug nest.
The 1997 military science-fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Edward Neumeier, was based on the science fiction novel of the same name by Robert A. Heinlein. Who wrote the novel in just a few weeks in reaction to the U.S. suspending nuclear tests. The story was first published as a two-part serial in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction as Starship Soldier and then published as a novel by the name ‘Starship Troopers’ in December 1959.
The movie succeeds in being just as much political and social satire as it is a science fiction action movie.
Movie production was helmed by Jurassic Park‘s Phil Tippett and his studio’s revolutionary mix of practical effects, miniatures, and computer-generated imagery. Tippett marshaled a team of 100 animators, model makers, computer artists and technicians. Their state of the art CGI leaves this 1997 cult classic still looking ridiculously good 20 years later.
