Battles in Battlestar Galactica is pure action extravaganza with pulsating rock-solid music. Although the music in the clip above has been replaced for copyright reasons, we did aim to find a soundtrack similar to the music in the show and hope for your indulgence.

The clip above is the first battle against the Cylons in the 2004 series when Galactica displaces itself in space in order to dodge a barrage of missiles, showing us the importance of point defense in space.

The Galactica Class Battlestar was the first class of Battlestar ever to be constructed by the Twelve Colonies. With twelve Battlestars constructed for the First Cylon War, each representing one of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol.

Several were destroyed during the war; the rest were being retired from active service slowly at the time of the Fall, presumably either to be scrapped or converted into museums. Few are seen in defense of the Twelve Colonies.

Galactica was one of the first Battlestar ever made and was rushed into service during the First Cylon War, even so, she went on to serve with distinction, participating in numerous battles throughout the war right up to the final decisive Battle of Tauron.

At the time of the Fall of the Colonies at the start of the Second Cylon war, Galactica was in the final stages of decommissioning and conversion into a museum ship.

Due to Commander William Adama, its CO, insisting that its systems should remain de-networked, the ship had never had its systems networked nor ever loaded the offending CNP software with its hidden backdoor into primary memory. Thus, it was able to avoid Cylon infiltration, re-arming at the Ragnar Anchorage and fleeing the Colonies with a fleet of civilian ships which it led on a four-year journey to seek out the ancient colony of Earth.

Numerous fighters remained onboard Battlestar Galactica, among those the proven Viper Mark II, the second iteration of the venerable Viper space superiority fighter. It served as the Colonial Fleet’s primary space superiority fighter/attack craft during the First Cylon War.

A squadron of Viper Mark II remained on Galactica for display purposes for its intended conversion into a museum; Re-activated at the start of the 2nd war, they were to prove their excellence once again when they defended the Galactica and its fleet during its journey to Earth.

A Colonial Battlestar is an immense capital ship and is constructed as a series of discrete modules and act as both gun platforms, missile and fighter carrier ships.

At the time of the outbreak of the Cylon attack Galactica is fitted with 40 two-gun heavy batteries; 8 1×2 dorsal, 8 1×2 ventral, 4 1×2 bow, 4 1×2 starboard & port bow (8 total both sides), but lacks the 4 fixed bow mounted cannon in the 80cm (30-inch)range similar to Pegasus. Battlestars rely almost exclusively on their main batteries to engage enemy capital ships.

Galactica has at least ten heavy missile launch tubes as seen in the episode “The Eye of Jupiter”. With Adama stating that there are five nuclear warheads aboard as of the outbreak of the 2nd war.

The Battlestar Galactica was originally equipped with 80 Viper Mk. I fighters. During the First Cylon War, these were replaced with the Mk. II, and later, the Mk. III versions.
